Stop At:  Villa San Marco

Our accredited and licensed tour guide will guide you through some of the best preserved Roman Villas in Southern Italy. Villa San Marco is much better preserved than the Villas located at Pompeii and the vibrant frescos are exceptional. Villa San Marco derives its name from an ancient chapel dedicated to St. Mark built on the site during the second half of the 18th century. It was a Roman residential villa on the edge of the hill, offering a wonderful panoramic view. The villa, first excavated between 1749 and 1754, was systematically re-excavated between 1950 and 1962.

Stop At:  Castello di Lettere

Our accredited and licensed tour guide will accompany you to the Castle of Lettere and the ruins of the ancient Cathedral. The castle was originally built in the form of a fortified village with multi-story houses, as proven by documents dating back to 1030 and 1033. The construction of the citadel, now known as the castle, was probably related to the settlement of the feudal lord that commissioned it as his place of residence inside the walls, and as a symbol of his power.

Stop At:  Lettere

Our accredited and licensed tour guide will accompany you through a tour of Sant’ Anna Cathedral and the Monastero del Santo Rosario. The construction Sant’ Anna began in the late 16th century and took nearly 100 years to complete. The last renovations were carried out in 2006. The main façade of the church has undergone important changes over the centuries. In 1982, at the behest of the canon Gaetano Rosanova and the people of Lettere, a new bronze portal was placed at the entrance of the church, the portal consists of nine panels that illustrate all the scenes taken from the New Testament. In the upper panel, instead, is the statue of St. Anne among the faithful, while in the part below the coat of arms of the Comune di Lettere, of Pope John Paul II, of the Bishop Mons. Antonio Zama and the designer of the portal Tommaso Gismondi. The priest Andrea Fusco and the nobleman Paolo Fattorosi, also natives of Lettere, were founders of the Monastero del Santo Rosario in the late 16th century. The Fusco and Fattorosi families donated their land and money near the cathedral and with appropriate renovations and expansions it was transformed into a monastery.
